Job Summary

The Radiology Technician, under direct supervision, takes images of various portions of the body by operating stationary and portable x-ray equipment according to developmental factors and age specifics. Processes and critiques radiographic films, prepares room, equipment, supplies and medications.

Main responsibilities

  • Assesses requisition for the appropriateness of the procedure
  • Explains the procedure to patients/clients
  • Performs radiologic procedures as assigned adhering to prescribed techniques.
  • Prepares and administers contrast agents necessary for radiologic examinations of internal organs
  • Assesses and observes patient for adverse reactions during procedures
  • Prepares patient for procedures
  • Explains procedures, assists and transfers patient to table, positions patient’s body for accurate images and assists patient at end of procedure
  • Follow prescribed techniques in administering general and specific x-rays, adjusts equipment, determines proper voltage, current and desired exposure time, arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patient, adjust lead shields to protect unaffected parts of the patient’s body, adjusts cone to direct concentration of rays on specific area and selects proper film.
  • Observes patient and equipment during procedures and reports unusual occurrences and records patient’s condition
  • Transports patients within department, to and from waiting area as required
  • Processes images/film in accordance to guidelines and photographic techniques
  • Performs quality control activities to ensure optimal quality radiographs
  • Performs mobile x-rays in patient’s rooms, emergency room, and operating room
  • Troubleshoots and reports equipment problems to supervisor
  • Prepares and maintains radiologic records, files and technical work sheets
  • Orders and stocks supplies
  • Cleans and disinfects patient rooms
  • Follow infection control and safety guidelines.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology or any other relevant discipline.
  • Valid radiology technician registration
  • At least 2 years’ full-time experience as a radiologic technician
  • Foreign training and experience is an added advantage

Knowledge/skills required

  • Skilled in the operation of X-ray and other radiologic equipment
  • Basic understanding of computer technology
  • Good with computer/IT tools
  • Good organisational and communication skills.
  • Possess high degree of accuracy and attention to details.
  • Must be able to analyze and solve problems effectively.      
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work long hours, often under pressure
  • Effective decision-making and leadership skills
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
