Job Summary

The consultant Radiologist is responsible to the Chief Medical Officer. The radiologist examines, and diagnoses disorders using x-rays and other radioactive materials. The radiologist is a member of the senior medical team and he/she provides leadership and guidance in establishing the highest standards of care and ensuring optimal delivery of quality care in line with international best practices.

Main responsibilities

                                

  • Obtain patients' histories from electronic records, patient interviews, dictated reports, or by communicating with referring clinicians.
  • Prepare comprehensive interpretive reports of findings; patient diagnostic or care activities.
  • Perform or interpret the outcomes of diagnostic imaging procedures including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), mammography, or ultrasound.
  • Operate diagnostic imaging equipment and analyze test data or images to inform diagnosis or treatment.
  • Communicate examination results or diagnostic information to referring physicians, patients, or families.
  • Evaluate medical information to determine patients’ risk factors, such as allergies to contrast agents, or to make decisions regarding the appropriateness of procedures.
  • Administer or maintain conscious sedation during and after procedures.
  • Instruct radiologic staff in desired techniques, positions, or projections.
  • Coordinate radiological services with other medical activities.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to plan or provide treatment.
  • Treat malignant internal or external growths by exposure to radiation from radiographs (x-rays), high energy sources, or natural or synthetic radioisotopes.
  • Administer cancer treatments.

Qualifications

  • MBBS/MBChB or equivalent
  • Fellowship in the Faculty of Radiology of either the West African College of Surgeons (WACS) and/or the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN);

OR

  • Equivalent fellowship in a country where you can obtain license to practice in Nigeria
  • Must be a minimum of two-years post-fellowship.
  • Full registration with the Nigerian Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
  • Foreign training and experience is an added advantage.

Knowledge/skills required

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be skilled and experienced with advance imaging tools; SPECT CT, CT, MRI etc.
  • Ability to work long, flexible and on-call hours, often under pressure
  • Good practical skills
  • Ability to solve problems
  • Effective decision-making and leadership skills
  • Communication skills, compassion and a good bedside manner
  • Drive to continue learning throughout career.
  • Strong IT/computer skills
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
