Job Summary

The consultant Plastic Reconstructive Surgeon is responsible to the Chief Medical Officer. The plastic surgeon examines, and provides adequate surgical care for patients with tissue, and structural abnormalities. The plastic reconstructive surgeon is a member of the senior medical team and he/she provides leadership and guidance in establishing the highest standards of care and ensuring optimal delivery of quality care in line with international best practices.

Main responsibilities

  • Responsible for the surgical treatment and clinical care of patients requiring plastic surgery.
  • Analyze patient’s medical history, medication allergies, physical condition, and examination results to verify the necessity of the surgical procedure and to determine best options.
  • Prescribe preoperative and postoperative treatments and procedures, such as sedatives, diets, antibiotics, and preparation and treatment of the patient's operative area.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of nurses, assistants, specialists, residents and other medical staff.
  • Examine patient to provide information on medical condition and surgical risk.·         Follow established surgical techniques during the operation.
  • Operate on patients to correct deformities, repair injuries, prevent and treat diseases, or improve or restore patients' functions.
  • Refer patient to medical specialist or other practitioners when necessary.
  • Conduct research to develop and test surgical techniques that can improve operating procedures and outcomes.
  • Examine instruments, equipment, and operating room to ensure sterility.

Qualifications

  • MBBS/MBChB or equivalent
  • Fellowship in the Faculty of Surgery of either the West African College of Surgeons (WACS) and/or the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN);

OR

Equivalent fellowship in a country where you can obtain license to practice in Nigeria

  • Must be a minimum of two-years post-fellowship.
  • Full registration with the Nigerian Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
  • Foreign training and experience is an added advantage.
